STGCC 2009: Focus on Animax

If you like anime or japanese music, you will definitely know about Animax. This channel has been the provider of anime and japanese latest music especially for those subscribing to cable tv. For me personally, I enjoy my gundam fix and my J-Pop (and visual rock, of I’m lucky) from Animax. Asides from that, they also show some of the most famous anime around. This month alone, they will show animes such as Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Shakugan no Shana II, Hayate the Combat Butler, and also Tears to Tiara. Loads of choice, huh?

Anyway, when I saw the logo at the STGCC, I was kinda puzzled on what to offer, normally anime based booth will just basically display well… the anime. However, this year Animax display something really different. Instead of displaying the usual booth, this time they give chance for people to actually try to be a part of the anime. Now you can’t expect to have cosplay again because that would be standard and not so unique. Instead, they let you be a dubber. Yep, those people that gives souls to character? The dubber (in English) or seiyuu (in Japanese)? You can try to be one of ‘em. How bout that for a change? Ha!

When we were there (we as in the blogger media), one nice lady offer us that chance as well to try to be a dubber. I was eager seeing my friend in action to voice one of the famous characters there. However, I was eager to try myself because I always wanted to try to become a dubber, hahaha. I tried to voice one of the main characters from Nodame Cantabile (Chiaki), and apparently being a dubber is difficult. o_O You gotta match your voice with the character’s expression, and you must convince the audience that it is Chiaki and not you. Kudos to all the dubbers/seiyuu-tachi out there.

Aside from dubbing booth, they also give you chance to try to present and even do a proper audition to be a presenter, and if you’re lucky you might get recruited by Animax. So, for those who miss it, sorry people, u guys just missed a rare opportunity.

Okay, without further ado, here are the pics, enjoy.

Hmm? Whyyy soooo serrriousssss? Probably because he’s at the moment trying out to be a presenter :D

Here is the booth on the second day of the convention, apparently they change the dubbing station into a presenter station, because this is how it looks on the media day:

Thanks to ZhiHao for this photo.

Can you see all the eager people in the background? Haha. Good luck, peeps! (Side note, the lovely lady on the left is the one who give pointers to me when I try to do dubbing)

If you wanna see me doing dubbing, you can check it on one of the links to my toy hobbyists friend on the right side of this blog. But here’s one photo for all my friends, courtesy of Leon.

And that’ll be all about Animax. Ciao.

I like this set, looks interesting, hahaha.
Some random urban toys…
Animal kingdom! Filled with top of the pyramid, tho~
The big dude interest me, can someone enlighten me on who he is?
Barbaric awesomeness here.
Leonidas: You know, Hellboy, I don’t think the Persian have anything to do with you.
Hellboy: I don’t care, Xerxes just woke up the baby. This urban toy looks good, eh?

This one as well, of course….

Aaaaand that’s all for my photo gallery, I will post some more coverage including one of the guest exhibitor from overseas. Ciao.

In the Magic The Gathering stand, you can ask them to play with you from a demo. To make you like the game, they use sort of a weaker deck IMO >_>
This is the poster of one of the character, I think. I’ve searched the hero’s database, she’s not a planeswalker. Something else, I suppose.
Some cute slithering urban toys.

I actually like this little tricksters series. Kinda reminds me of Knuckles from Sonic, but more vicious. (and vicious iz cute, mwahahaha…)

Your friendly neighborhood… Snake Eyes. Wait, what?

This guy is pretty much lucky he can still smile and not grinning at the floor. J/k.

Main sign at Suntec Convention Center entrance…Some grafitti created by the guest and VIP artists.
Including our friendly neighborhood… Joker. (well, okay, not that friendly… he’s nuts.)
Some cute cosplayer is ready in front of the main entrance as well, this one is from… euh… I have no idea.
Kamen Rider Kiva is there to say hi as well. Hi Wataru!
Wii stand! Yes, Leon, I’m not looking at the game.

The wii stand are promoting the new Wii Resort, btw, the games that I like are the Swordplay and the arrow game.
In front of the Starhub, there’s a huge crowd waiting… Is it for an artist’s signature?
Nope, it’s for freebies. Yes, people, you can get some freebies here especially if you’re playing Wii or purchasing it.

Nintendo puts a lot of effort in this STGCC 2009, and I must say, they did (or do) one hell of a job here :D If Wii resort is not “sexy” enough for you, apparently Wii is going to launch Oneechanbara game.

This game have enough zombie and smexiness to make guys go “Wiiiiiii!”.And if you want more zombie, less bikini, here ya go, the latest in the House of The Dead franchise… Overkill.
I spot Keroro Gunsou and Momonoji sitting side by side at the Bandai booth. This is the USB version of them, btw.
Some droolizer SIC from bandai. This line is called SIC Takumi, btw. They are gashapon size but beautifully sculpted depicting some action or scene from the real series.

And Strike Freedom Gundam with a gashapon machine in the middle -_-

See ya in part 2… :D

STGCC 2009

Warning: this post is heavy on words, my phone camera failed me again and every picture I took looked grainy. And yes, I will present you a better resolution pictures on Saturday. *cross fingers that I will actually have a room to take pictures.*

Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention. Here, lemme give you the poster before I start…logo_sgtoycomiccon_2009

Now now, if you’re still clueless on what’s this poster is all about, it’s a convention about toys and games and it’s located in Singapore. (why you’re very smart, mr. Obvious, here have a rock. Hahahaha…)

Just kidding, peeps. This is an event where all the toy lovers, hobbyists, scrappers, crappers, blahblahers… (ok ok, I’m kinda outdated with this terms, all I know is  I belong to hobbyists. And by the waaaay, crappers refer to clueless bunch who’ll go in just because the admission is free.)

Wait wait wait… did I just say FREE?? Yep, the admission is, ladies and gentle ladies… FREE. No charge. So, probably you’re thinking, what will I get then? A lot. (you also might be thinking, why the heck did I just start updating without a proper explanation… euh… I don’t have one. Moving on.)

I went in to the convention at Suntec Convention Center with a doubt on my mind. I always doubt things. Wise man said… only fools rush in. (and yes, cousin, that is also what Julio Iglesias sang) However, after peeking inside while queuing for my Media pass with Leon from OpenTheToy I started to have my hope there. I can’t wait to get inside!

So, after I got my pass, I went into the hall 401 being greeted by none other than…. … … … an Indian uncle that didn’t smile back when I smile to him. T_T

Then you will directly see Wii stand filled with gir…ahem…games, Bandai stand filled with Gashapon and one 1/1 SD Strike Freedom Gundam (no grandpa gundam T_____T ), and of course following the current movie hype… Dora… j/k… Hasbro stand with GI Joe and ROTFLOL … I mean Transformers: ROTF. If you’re a gamer or a hobbyist you will directly know that this is it. Your place, your zone, or from Leon’s term, your niche. (Juliana also said the same, I used the word forte instead tho~)

Now, this post will be boring without any pictures. (I even congratulate you for reading this far hahahahah….) However, I don’t have any pictures of the event at the moment. You guys just have to wait until Saturday for my part of photos. However, being a Media guy, I’m sure my comrades have posted things about the event, such as:

Do please visit their site while I collect more photos for you guys to see. Meanwhile, let us begin the 2009 STGCC, here’s the opening horn for you to see courtesy of me. (on the side note: the camera girl in front of me is cute… and so is the wii girl… and so is some other girl… hahahaha… I’m single, what can I do? Hahahaha.)

That’s all for now. Thanks to Leon for the Media pass, and thanks to the other blogger for making this event fun, and also thanks to my producer… wait… let’s stop it there.

Ciao.
